No “road” games for a month

The book of coaching clichés is pretty lengthy. There is probably a quote for every situation.

One of my favorites is “don’t let one loss beat you twice.” In other words, let it go.

Last Saturday’s Iowa State football foe is presumed to be in store for a special season. Multiple experts have called for them to win the national title. Time will tell.

Two weeks ago, Kansas fans were bemoaning a 6-3 loss to North Dakota State. The Jayhawks followed with an upset of 15th-ranked Georgia Tech. Every week brings another opportunity.

One thing Coach Paul Rhoads can feel pretty good about this week is that his team will be committed. They proved that last week by competing hard in the second half after a difficult start. Rhoads’ applauded his team’s character and he’ll use that strong character as a foundation for improvement this week.

Rhoads is also pleased that the next month features one neutral site game (this week at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium) and three home games. Iowa State and Kansas State agreed to a two-year deal to play games in the Kansas City Chiefs’ facility and this week’s contest is the Wildcats’ home game. So, a trip to KC to open Big 12 play looms instead of a road trip to Manhattan. You can be certain Rhoads and the Cyclones prefer that as they try to bounce back.
