Cyclones break ticket records for hoops & football

The Iowa State Athletics Ticket Office is probably exhausted. And, that’s a great thing.

The Cyclones have set school records for season tickets sold in both football and men’s basketball this season.

Amazing… exciting… and unprecedented.

Football – 37,763 season tickets sold
That total is an increase of 19% over 2010, and broke the school record by 1,153 tickets. Five home crowds of better than 50,000 is another ISU mark. The Cyclones are also poised to crush the previous record for average home attendance with one more home game to be played.

Men’s Basketball – 10,252 season tickets sold (as of today)
This is the second time in school history that ISU sold more than 10,000 season tickets (10,247 in 2007) and it’s an increase of 20% over last season. The department’s student ticket allotment was sold out by July and the popular $99 season tickets sold out by October.

Is there a common denominator?

I suspect it’s the pride and loyalty of Cyclone Nation. Plus, head coaches Paul Rhoads and Fred Hoiberg – each with ISU backgrounds – are hugely popular with the fan base.

For a Division 1 school with more than 100 years of intercollegiate competition, it’s an incredible accomplishment to set season ticket records in both sports the same season.

Take a bow, Cyclone fans. You deserve it!
