ISU fourth in attendance increase for BCS schools

Iowa State’s average home football crowd this season is 53,971.

That mark is 2,065 higher than the current school record and it ranks 38th nationally. The Cyclones averaged 45,395 at their home games last season, which ranked 54th in Division 1A.

ISU has enjoyed an 18.9% increase from last year in home attendance. That improvement is the fourth-best nationally among schools in the automatic qualifying BCS conferences.

Three Pac-12 programs – Washington State (31.6%), Stanford (24.2%) and Arizona State (20.1%) – are the only ones with larger increases in home crowds than the Cyclones.

ISU is joined by only the Sun Devils and Oklahoma State (12.3% increase) as schools with double-digit increases over 2010 and season averages above 50,000.

The Cyclones have one more opportunity to factor into its season average and that is the Friday night ESPN encounter with the nation’s second-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on Nov. 18.

Iowa State fans have answered the call all season. Can you do it one more time?
